On December 4, 2015 Congress enacted the Fixing America's Surface Transportation (FAST) Act (Pub. L. No. 114-94) which authorized federal highway, highway and motor vehicle safety, public transportation, motor carrier safety, hazardous materials safety, rail, and research, technology, and statistics programs for fiscal years 2016 through 2020. Congress will need to reauthorize the program by September 30, 2020. ASCE has laid out a comprehensive statement (PDF) on the elements necessary to address the Nation's surface transportation needs going forward.
